Gayle A. Chaudoir

ESCANABA — Gayle A. Chaudoir, 69, of Escanaba, passed away on Friday, January 14, 2022 at OSF St. Francis Hospital.

She was born on February 27, 1952 in Escanaba, the daughter of Milton and Dolores (Roberts) Lauscher. Gayle graduated from Perkins High School in 1970 and remained a lifelong resident of this community.

When she was 19 years old, while working at the Red Owl, she met her future husband, Mike, who worked there as well. They were married on September 24, 1971 at St. Anne’s Church in Escanaba and together shared 50 years of marriage.

Gayle was a dietary aide in the cafeteria and kitchen at OSF St. Francis Hospital for 30 years until her retirement in 2017.

Gayle adored her grandchildren and traveled frequently to attend their sporting events and other activities. She was a very creative person who enjoyed doing crafts. She was also amazing in the kitchen, always showing her love through the delicious foods she cooked and baked, whether at work or home. She also loved reading, going to the casino, playing bingo, and was an avid Green Bay Packers fan. In her younger years, she enjoyed bowling league at Bowl-a-Rama and ice skating at Royce Park.

Gayle is survived by her husband, Michael “Mike” Chaudoir; children, Scott (Lisa) Chaudoir of Rockford, Mich. and Mikki (Steve) Devine-Vance of Antioch, Ill.; grandchildren, Brendan and Anna Chaudoir and Cassidy and Connor Devine; siblings, Bob (Audrey) Lauscher, Jan (Mark) Depuydt, Char Koontz, Mike (Elaine) Lauscher, Terry (Mary Jo) Lauscher, Gary (Liz) Lauscher, Don (Kim) Lauscher, Brian (Lori) Lauscher, Patti (Phil) Anderson, Cheryl (Buck) Nelson, Mary Kay (Orv) Lantagne, Mick (Cheryl) Lauscher, Joe (Marilyn) Lauscher, and Randy (John) Lauscher; sister-in-law, Pat (Rich) Salo; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Another special family in her life was Todd Gobert, his wife Sonnie and daughter Leah.

She was preceded in death by her parents; father and mother in-law, George and Christine Chaudoir; brother in-law, Greg Koontz; sisters-in-law, Mary Livermore and Carole Nelson; niece, Jenny Livermore; and nephew, Justin Nelson.

Visitation will be held on Friday, January 21 from 3 to 4 p.m. at St. Anne’s Church in Escanaba. The Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 4 p.m. with Rev. Fran DeGroot officiating.

Burial will take place at a later date in the Perkins Cemetery.

The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Delta County Cancer Alliance in Gayle’s name.

Also, thanks to Dr. Lisa Knauf-Jorasz and nurse Mallery; dialysis nurses and staff at Fresenius Kidney Care in Escanaba; radiation oncology nurses at Bellin Health in Marinette, WI; dialysis nurses at UPHS Hospital in Marquette; nurses from UPHS Home Health, and the doctors and nurses at OSF St. Francis who cared for Gayle during her final days.
