Madeline Elaine Turek
NAHMA — Longtime Nahma resident, Madeline Elaine Turek, age 99, passed away peacefully on November 7, 2021, at Christian Park in Escanaba, Mich. She was born on August 17, 1922, in Cooks, Mich. the daughter of Nauis Edward and Olive (LaFrancis) Popour. Madeline attended school in Cooks and graduated with the class of 1940. She married Francis “Rusty” Turek in Nahma, Mich. on May 3, 1941.
Madeline spent the greater part of her life in Nahma, Mich. She proudly worked as a teachers aide for 16 years at Big Bay de Noc School and loved the kids she worked with. Madeline also worked at the Nahma Hotel and Boarding House. She was a wonderful homemaker, wife, and mother. Madeline was a member of St. Andrew’s Catholic Church of Nahma and was a member of St. Andrew’s Altar Society. She enjoyed playing cards, was very good at cribbage, and really liked visiting the casino. She liked to sew and crochet and enjoyed crossword puzzles. Madeline loved spending time with family.
She is survived by her son, Lee Turek of Nahma, Mich.; her daughters, Kay Cousineau of Garden Corners, Mich., Ann Bingham of St. Jaques, Mich., and Sue (Michael) Nowak of Escanaba, Mich.; eight grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, nine siblings; sons-in-law Jerry Cousineau and Robert Bingham; and her granddaughter Christine Nowak.
Visitation will be on Thursday, November 11, from noon to 2 p.m. at Fausett Family Funeral Homes of Manistique with a funeral service at 2 p.m. with Fr Benedetto Paris officiating. Burial to follow at New Garden Cemeteries, in Garden, Mich.
