For the record: Bay president clarifies statement

ESCANABA — Bay College President Dr. Nerita Hughes wanted to clarify a statement made in the story “Legislators discuss Bay College, weigh in on challenges,” which ran on page 1A of the April 5 edition of the Daily Press.

State Senator Ed McBroom made a statement referencing the college losing its certification regarding its Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) program. Hughes wanted to clarify that the college did not lose accreditation, as it was not required by the Michigan State Board of Nursing (MSBON) until changes were made in 2018 to its administrative rules requiring all LPN programs in Michigan to be accredited to remain in good standing. The college is currently working to gain accreditation and anticipates it will be reinstated in 2026 as it has a site visit scheduled from the Accreditation Commission for Education and Nursing this year.

Starting at $2.99/week.
