Full slate of summer fishing tourneys ahead
ESCANABA — As the final snowbanks melt away and winter coats are stored, fishermen prepare for a slate of tournaments.
The Bay de Noc Great Lakes Sport Fisherman announced its schedule of fishing tournaments for the season, and one is right around the corner.
There are three club tournaments throughout the season, one kid’s tournament and a fishing derby for veterans.
It’s a $100 tournament entry fee for the three adult tournaments with two side pots – one of $20 and one of $50.
The three club tournaments, Early Bird, Classic Walleye, and Last Chance, are part of the Bass Pro Shops and Cabela’s National Team Championship qualifiers.
The tournaments are sponsored by Bayshore Bait and Hideaway, Bay View Bait and Tackle, Blade’s Bait & Tackle, Difter’s Restaurant and L&M Fleet Supply.
MAY 17
The first tournament is the Early Bird Walleye Tournament. Registration begins at 6 a.m. at the North Shore boat launch, and takeoff is scheduled for 7 a.m.
The weigh-in takes place at 4 p.m. at the Escanaba Harbour, with awards and BBQ at the Ore House Tavern to follow.
JUNE 14
In June, it’s time for the Bays Classic Walleye Tournament. Registration begins at 6 a.m. at the North Shore boat launch, and takeoff is scheduled for 7 a.m.
The weigh-in takes place at 4 p.m. at Chenier’s Reef. Participants get a chance at prizes and raffles. BBQ will be provided. Contact Chenier’s Reef at (906) 553-7474 for donation information.
AUGUST 23
It’s the young guns turn in August during the Bay de Noc Kids Tournament. The teams consist of up to three kids (17 and under) and up to two adults. At the minimum, one adult and one kid may participate.
Registration begins at 6 a.m. at the North Shore boat launch. The weigh-in is at 2 p.m., back at North Shore.
There is a $75 entry fee.
Participants get a chance at prizes and raffles. BBQ will be provided.
AUGUST 30
Veterans will drop a line in August, competing for free in the Bay Area Veterans Fishing Derby at Ludington Park.
September 13
The season of tournaments concludes in September with the Bay de Noc Last Chance event.
Registration begins at 6 a.m. at the North Shore boat launch, and takeoff is scheduled for 7 a.m.
The weigh-in occurs at 4 p.m. at Chenier’s Reef, with awards, raffles, and BBQ to follow.
