Escanaba prepares for budget work sessions

ESCANABA — Two days of work sessions on the Escanaba city budget will begin Monday in the city council chambers at city hall. These meetings are open to the public and will feature city staff and members of the city council working out the details for the next fiscal year.

The city has indicated that the days’ scheduled agenda may shift by as much as 15 minutes in either direction to allow each department time to state their needs and wants for the coming year. A tentative schedule is as follows:

MONDAY

9 a.m. — Public comment

9:05 a.m. — Introduction by the city manager and city controller

9:20 a.m. — Electric department

10 a.m. — Public works department

11:45 a.m. — City clerk’s office

noon — Lunch break

1 p.m. — Water and wastewater departments

2:30 p.m. — Escanaba Public Library

3 p.m. — Escanaba Downtown Development Authority

3:30 p.m. — General discussion

TUESDAY

9 a.m. — Public comment

9:05 a.m. — Public safety

9:45 a.m. — Planning and zoning

10:15 a.m. — Human resources/Treasurer’s office

10:30 a.m. — City controller’s office

10:45 a.m. — City manager/City assessor’s office

11:15 a.m. — General discussion and public comment

Those planning to attend the workshops to hear about a specific topic should arrive at least 15 minutes before the planned time.
