Condition of buggy crash victims improves
RIVERLAND — Another one of the four occupants in the Amish horse and buggy that was hit by a truck in Riverland on Saturday is out of the hospital. Two others remain hospitalized and in stable condition.
According to the Delta County Sheriff’s Office, the accident occurred on Saturday at approximately 3:28 p.m.
Deputies were dispatched to the Riverland area on 18th Road near H.25 Road for a crash involving a pickup truck and the Amish horse and buggy. The initial investigation found both the truck and buggy were headed eastbound on 18th Road when the truck struck the buggy.
There were four female passengers on the buggy, and all sustained injuries.
The male driver of the pickup truck was uninjured.
As of Sunday, one buggy passenger has been treated and released from the hospital.
According to Delta County Deputy Josh Simmons, a second individual was released from the hospital earlier this week.
The other two individuals remain in the hospital but are in stable condition. One is currently hospitalized in Green Bay, Wis., and the other is in Marquette.
Simmons had no more information but said the department is actively investigating the incident.
The community has since stepped up to support the four individuals, setting up a donation account at First Bank and a GoFundMe account.
Donations can be made at any First Bank location under the Amish Family Accident account.
The GoFundMe page can be found on the website by searching ‘Support for the Cornell Amish Family Recoveries’ or at https://www.gofundme.com/f/support-for-the-cornell-amish-family-recoveries. As of 3 p.m. on Thursday, the GoFundMe has raised over $2,700.
