ESCANABA — A winter storm watch has been issued for the local area by the National Weather Service through Sunday night. The area impacted includes Alger, Luce, Delta, Southern Schoolcraft, Northern Schoolcraft Counties including the cities of Escanaba, Gladstone, Seney, Newberry,

Munising, Manistique, and Grand Marais.

Heavy mixed precipitation is possible. Total snow and sleet accumulations up to 1 inch and ice accumulations between one tenth and one half of an inch is possible Friday morning and Friday night, with most falling Friday night.

Power outages and tree damage are likely due to the ice, according the weather service. Travel could be very difficult to nearly impossible. The hazardous conditions could impact the Friday morning and evening commutes.

Additional ice accumulations up to a quarter inch and wet snowfall accumulations up to 2 inches are possible Saturday night and Sunday.
