Man evades chase, but later caught with drugs
ESCANABA – A high speed chase resulted in an arrest for drug charges Tuesday in Escanaba.
At roughly 2:30 p.m., an Escanaba Public Safety officer attempted to apprehend an individual with a felony warrant during a traffic stop. The suspect fled the scene at a high rate of speed near the Escanaba High School as students were being released for the day.
Due to the high speed and the large amount of pedestrians in the area, officers discontinued the chase in interest of public safety.
Shortly after, a concerned citizen in Escanaba reported a suspicious individual walking near a vehicle matching the description of the suspect’s car.
Officers responded to the area and apprehended the suspect and took them into custody without further incident.
Upon further investigation, officers found roughly 11 grams of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia consistent with the sale of narcotics.
The suspect was logged in the Delta County Jail on multiple charges.
“Escanaba Public Safety extends its gratitude to the community members who provided crucial information that led to the suspect’s arrest. This incident highlights the importance of law enforcement and the public working together to keep our community safe,” the department said in a press release.
