Virtual public comment may be delayed

ESCANABA — A planned roll-out of virtual public comment at Delta County Board of Commissioners meetings may be delayed due to a slight hiccup in setting up the greeting for callers viewing livestreamed meetings.

“We’ve run into just a little snag. If we get it resolved today, then we’ll have public comment, remote public comment, tomorrow through the phone lines. But if we don’t resolve it, it will be the next meeting,” said Commissioner Christine Williams, during a special meeting Monday that was not livestreamed.

Once in place, viewers will be given phone numbers to call to leave public comment. One phone number will be used for the first public comment period, which is strictly for items on the meeting agenda, and a separate number will be used for general public comment at the end of the meeting. In both cases, viewers will be asked to leave their name and a message.

Viewers leaving public comment on agenda items, will also be asked to identify what agenda item they are referencing prior to leaving a comment.

The next meeting of the commission is today at 5:15 p.m. If the system is not in place by that time, the county hopes to have it online for the Feb. 18 meeting.

Starting at $2.99/week.
