Student Success Center has new home on North Lincoln Road

ESCANABA — The Escanaba Area Public Schools Board of Education announced the opening of a newly renovated site for the Escanaba Student Success Center at 2827 N. Lincoln Rd. The board and school staff will host an open house on February 10 at 5 p.m. Following the open house, the board will have its February Committee of the Whole meeting at 6 p.m.

“Currently, the ESSC serves about a hundred students and is housed in the Delta Schoolcraft Intermediate School District building,” said EAPS Superintendent Dr. Coby Fletcher. “However, with the addition of a new welding building and a need for greater office space at the DSISD, the ESSC had to be relocated. The DSISD gave us plenty of notice, and we were able to purchase and renovate a building that had been sitting empty for some time, so this is a huge plus for the ESSC and the community both.”

“We’re very excited about the new site,” said Board President Jim Beauchamp. “This is a place designed with the needs of these students in mind.”

The renovated building contains a large student workspace and individual classroom space, but it also has a working kitchen, laundry, and showering facilities.

“Our students come to us with a variety of needs,” said Laurie Moberg, the director of the ESSC. “We work hard to meet these needs, and that sometimes includes teaching basic life skills like how to plan and cook meals or do laundry. We want to see our students graduate and become independent in every sense of the word.”

The board encourages all interested community members to join them at the open house.

Students’ first day in the new building will be February 12.

Starting at $2.99/week.
