Oreo feast draws Bay College students

Noah Johnson Daily Press Three Bay College students were all smiles as they were sampling different Oreo flavors.
ESCANABA РA large group of college students took a test at Bay College in the café on Wednesday, but instead of pencils and calculators, facilitators provided milk and napkins.
Bay College hosted a Oreo taste test, sampling over 25 different flavors of the sandwich cookie.
The taste test was spearheaded by Bay Executive Director of Student Life and Campus Security, Dave Laur and sponsored by the Campus Activities Board (CAB) at Bay.
The planning began back in the fall, when Laur and the Bay College Campus Board were discussing possible student activities for the winter semester.
“When they started putting out the limited editions, we started getting more of those and we said, “Hey, let’s do an Oreo taste test in winter semester. It’s cold out, people need some extra joy and I mean, (who doesn’t like) Oreos,” Laur said.
Laur and company found the different flavors at local retailers such Walmart, Meijer and Elmers County Market.
Taste testers tried a range of odd and unique flavors including Sour Patch Kids, Post Malone, Star Wars and pumpkin spice to name a few.
There were also more classic flavors such as chocolate, birthday cake, loaded and mint.
Facilitators also provided four different gluten-free options for those with an allergy or are avoiding gluten.
Some students tried a select few, while others tried all 26 different flavors.
It wouldn’t be an Oreo taste test without milk, so the cafe provided cartons of regular and chocolate milk.
Participants were asked to select their top three favorite flavors and submit them for a chance to win gift cards.
“We have some gift cards to the caf√©, a grand prize with $50 gift card and then two $10 gift cards and so, for taking the time to participate, we just wanted to say thank you and bring a little extra sunshine to February in the Upper Peninsula,” Laur said.
He added he is grateful to the participants as well as the local community.
