Deputies warn of phone scam targeting area

ESCANABA — The Delta County Sheriff’s Office is warning about a phone scam that has targeted the area.

The Delta County Sheriff’s Office has received many reports of people getting phone calls from someone claiming to be an officer with the Delta County Sheriff’s Office. The caller will say that you have a warrant out of your arrest, but you can pay a fine in the form of moneygrams or pre-paid cards to avoid criminal charges. Sometimes they will ask for personal information. Please do not give out personal information over the phone or send anything to them, the department stated.
