Wetmore couple killed in fatal crash identified
ESCANABA — Two people who were killed in an two-vehicle crash Thursday at the intersection of North Lincoln Road and Danforth Road have been identified.
Obituaries for John W. “Jack” and Corrine G. Wigand, both 91, of Wetmore state they passed away on Thursday, January 23, 2025 as a result of injuries sustained in an automotive accident. The obituaries can be found on page 5A of today’s Daily Press.
The crash occurred about 1:20 p.m. Thursday. The Jaws of Life were dispatched because of reports of people being trapped in one of the vehicles.
It was discovered a southbound Dodge Ram truck pulling a snowmobile trailer had struck a Subaru that attempted to turn westbound onto Danforth Road. The driver and passenger were freed using the Jaws of Life. Both were pronounced dead at the scene.
The four occupants of the truck were able to exit on their own and were taken to OSF St. Francis Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
Escanaba Public Safety was assisted by the Michigan State Police Accident Reconstruction Unit out of the Gladstone Post, Delta County Sheriff’s Office, Rampart EMS, Delta County Central Dispatch and Gene’s Towing.
