Schoolcraft hospital CEO to resign

MANISTIQUE — Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital (SMH) announced that Andy Bertapelle, its Chief Executive Officer, has made the decision to step down from his role, effective April 4, 2025. Bertapelle has served as CEO since July 2022 during which time he has been a driving force behind several key initiatives that have significantly enhanced the hospital’s operations and community impact.

Bertapelle has accepted another CEO position in Washington State and will be leaving the area with his family.

Bertapelle shared his sentiments, “This decision was not made lightly. Leading this organization has been one of the greatest honors of my professional life. I am immensely proud of the strides we have made together–improving patient care, expanding services, and fostering a culture of excellence and compassion. These accomplishments are a testament to the talent, dedication, and resilience of our team.”

Over the next three months, Bertapelle will work with the board of trustees, the senior leaders, and all of Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital to support a seamless transition.

The Board of Trustees will initiate a comprehensive search for Mr. Bertapelle’s successor to ensure a smooth transition. In the interim, Andy will continue to oversee the hospital’s operations and continue to advance its mission of delivering high-quality healthcare to the community.
