Iron River man arrested for ­terroristic threats

IRON RIVER — An Iron River man was arrested Wednesday for making terroristic threats in Iron County.

On Wednesday, Michigan State Police troopers from the Iron Mountain Post responded to a complaint regarding terroristic threats. The 40-year-old man had allegedly been making threats towards Iron County residents, including children. The threats, which were communicated online, caused concern for the safety of the community.

Within a few hours of the investigation beginning, the suspect was located and taken into custody. The suspect was lodged in the Iron County Jail on the charge of False Report or Threat of Terrorism.

Assisting MSP troopers in the investigation were the Iron River Police Department, Iron County Sheriff’s Office, Michigan DNR Conservation Officers, Iron County Dispatch, and Aspirus EMS.

“We condemn all threats of violence toward our community members, especially those directed towards children,” said Lt. Ben Eckola, MSP Eighth District Public Information Officer. “We are thankful for the quick actions and cooperation of all law enforcement agencies involved.”

The suspect’s name is being withheld pending arraignment.
