Gwinn man charged with firing gun at home
MARQUETEE — A Gwinn area resident was arrested for firing a gun at a residence among other charges.
On Jan. 10, around 8:28 p.m., a Michigan State Police (MSP) trooper was dispatched from the MSP Negaunee Post to County Road 545 near M-94 Highway in West Branch Township for a one-vehicle crash. The investigation resulted in the arrest of Jeffery Johnson, 56, for operating while intoxicated. He was transported to the Marquette County Jail.
The following morning, residents near where the crash occurred reported to authorities that the front and back windows of their vehicle had been shot out. No one was injured, but the vehicle was damaged. Another MSP Negaunee Post trooper investigated further and determined that Johnson allegedly fired a rifle at a vehicle parked outside of a residence before crashing his truck the night before. The firearm used was located near the crash site in a bush.
He was charged with malicious destruction of property, discharging a firearm at a residence, felony firearm and operating while intoxicated.
Johnson was arraigned in the 96th District on Jan. 13. His bond was set at $30,000 with conditions. He will be back in court on Jan. 23.
