Four escape burning home in Manistique
MANISTIQUE TOWNSHIP — A home in Manistique Township was destroyed by fire Wednesday.
Officers from Manistique Public Safety were dispatched at approximately 9:24 p.m. to a reported structure fire at 914N River Road in Manistique Township. The individual who called said the home was on fire and that all occupants had gotten out of the building.
Firefighters from Manistique Public Safety and the Manistique Volunteer Fire Department arrived at the scene at approximately 9:39 p.m. and could see the home was fully-engulfed in flames. The first arriving firefighters were able to confirm that all four adult occupants of the home, which included the caller, were able to exit the structure safely.
The fire was under control after about 40 minutes, but firefighters remained on scene until approximately 12:19 a.m. due to hot spots that were created when the home’s roof collapsed.
There were no injuries to the occupants, firefighters or support personnel. The residence is considered a total loss, along with most of the occupants’ personal belongings.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Manistique Public Safety and the Manistique Volunteer Fire Department were assisted at the scene by Manistique MES, the Hiawatha Township Volunteer Fire Department, Thompson Township Volunteer Fire Department, Doyle Township Fire Department, Sault Tribe Police Department, Michigan State Police, Cloverland Electric, and SEMCO Energy.
