Blaze damages home in Wells Township
WELLS TOWNSHIP A house at 5429 K Ln. in Wells Township sufferd major damage in a fire around 11:15 a.m. on Monday. A resident had called emergency services when her house began to fill with smoke; she gathered pets and managed to evacuate the premises with no injuries before officers arrived, according to a press release from Lt. Jamie Silverstone with the Escanaba Department of Public Safety.
Responders called for further aid when they found smoke rolling from the eaves, and flames began to emit from the roof.
“Officers quickly deployed attack lines and entered the residence knocking down the fire,” read Silverstone’s report. UPPCO also arrived quickly to de-energize and isolate power.
Also assisting were Delta County Central Dispatch, Rampart EMS, Ford River Township Volunteer Fire Department, Escanaba Township Volunteer Fire Department, Delta County Sheriff’s Office and the American Red Cross. Firefighters used the parking lot at Pine Ridge Storage to park their vehicles and gear up before walking to the scene.
The house sustained major smoke, fire and water damage.
