Fletcher gets high rating from school board

Dr. Coby Fletcher

ESCANABA — Escanaba Area Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Coby Fletcher has earned another top rating. The EAPS Board of Education unanimously approved Dr. Fletcher’s formal evaluation during its December 17 meeting, rating him “effective.” The evaluation itself was conducted over the last two meetings of the board.

In Michigan, superintendents are graded on a number of factors including governance and board relations, community relations, staff relations, business and finance, and instructional leadership. The evaluation also takes student growth into account. Superintendents receive one of three ratings: needing support, developing, or effective.

“We’re very happy with the direction our district is heading under Dr. Fletcher’s leadership,” said Board President Jim Beauchamp. “We’ve seen increases in student enrollment, made major upgrades to our facilities, and we’re in a very strong financial position. Dr. Fletcher’s focus is on freeing up our staff to do great work in the classroom, and it shows.”

For his part, Dr. Fletcher expressed his gratitude to the Board, the community, and school staff.

“Escanaba is a wonderful place with great families and kids, and our schools are guided by a dedicated board of education that focuses on what’s most important. And, you couldn’t ask for a better group of staff to work with. It’s really a pleasure to serve as the superintendent.”

Dr. Fletcher’s next scheduled evaluation will be in December of 2026.

Starting at $2.99/week.
