Date set for Gladstone election recount
GLADSTONE — A recount will be held Tuesday, Dec. 10 at 9 a.m. to determine if the certified vote totals from the Nov. 4 election are accurate in the race for a partial term on Gladstone’s city commission. The recount will take place at Gladstone City Hall.
According to official ballot totals from the General Election, Steve O’Driscoll received 921 votes (39.19%) to secure the partial term on the commission. Fellow candidates Steve Viau and Michael O’Connor received 696 votes (29.62%) and 685 votes (29.15%), respectively.
According to the Delta County Clerk’s Office, the petition for the recount was filed by O’Connor, who stated there were substantially more votes recorded for the issue of amending the city’s charter to prohibit special assessments than there were recorded for the city commission race. Certified election results show there were 2,621 votes cast for the amendment question and 2,350 casts for the commission race.
Recounts for elected positions may only be requested by candidates who participated in those races and hand recounts may only take place after the election has been certified by both the local and the state board of canvassers. All elections statewide were certified by the state board of canvassers on Nov. 22.
