Holiday cooking show coming soon to Island
ESCANABA — Planning is underway for a holiday cooking show, which will be held at the Island Resort and Casino through a partnership between the Daily Press, Elmer’s County Market, and the Island.
Like the “Taste of the Island “ held earlier this year, the host will be the casino’s Food and Beverage Director, Stephen Gakstatter, and the chef will be Kristina Pomeroy. But a new theme, different approach, and different guests — who will have the opportunity to step into the spotlight — are expected to feature.
The event will be held on Thursday, Dec. 12. Doors of the Island’s convention center will open at 4 p.m., and the show itself will run from 6 to 9 p.m.
Around a mock kitchen setup from Perk’s Cabinetry and Pioneer TV and Appliance, Pomeroy will prepare a series of holiday sides. Meanwhile, over the microphone, Gakstatter will discuss the dishes, chat with audience members, and pass the torch — mic — along.
Beyond just booth space along the walls of the convention center, participating vendors may also be given the chance to deliver presentations as there will be time between cooking segments.
One chef who runs her own business has been confirmed to attend and intends to do cookie decorating presentations. Nycole Mercier, proprietor of Baking Bad, appeared on Food Network’s “Christmas Cookie Challenge” in 2018.
Discussions are underway amongst organizers about the specifics of food and drink to be served to guests.
After details are confirmed for “Taste of the Island: Holiday Edition,” tickets will be produced, with likely up to 380 available for sale from the Daily Press, Elmer’s, and the casino.
