Black Friday on Tuesday kicks off holiday season
ESCANABA — Black Friday on Tuesday, a day of shopping, celebration and holiday spirit in downtown Escanaba, is returning next week. On November 26 — two days before Thanksgiving — downtown Escanaba will be booming with holiday deals.
The day is made possible by the Escanaba Downtown Development Authority (DDA) and local business partners.
Various businesses on and around Ludington Street participate with special sales and shop-local promotions. The event includes carolers, a special visit from Santa, hot chocolate, and more. Two limousines offering rides will patrol down Ludington if you want to feel like a celebrity while shopping. The Escanaba City Band City Band will be playing at the Christmas tree on South 11th and Ludington Streets beginning at 6 p.m. This year, the band has a new stage to unveil.
The festive day culminates with the lighting of the tree at 7 p.m. in front of Center Court, home to the Downtown Development Authority.
The tree was decorated by 140 students from the Upper Elementary School.
Local participating businesses will have significant discounts and promotions from 10 percent to even 50 percent discounts.
Downtown Development Authority Director Craig Woerpel said it’s an excellent opportunity to shop locally at a number of stores and shops.
Participating in the sales will be Bonifas Arts Center, Grab & Go, Highline, Jim’s Music & Teaching Center, KIN Salon & Boutique, Leigh’s Garden Winery, Mr. Bike and Ski, Nyman Jewelers, Pam’s Petals, Pioneer TV & Appliance, {Refine} Skin & Wellness Center, Shoreline Shopping Show/Radio Results Network, Sculpting Beauties Esthetics, T&T True Value Hardware, Yooper Forestry, Youngs Menswear and UP North Roast Coffee.
Note, more businesses may have joined the event since publication. Participating businesses and offered deals can be found at escanabadowntown.com.
In addition to discounts, check with businesses for in-store drawings and enter for “jingle bucks.”
Lucky winners receive $500, $250, or $100 to be spent downtown during the holiday season.
“Escanaba has the longest small town downtown in Michigan jammed packed with unique shops, great restaurants and dedicated businesses ready to welcome you for holiday fun,” according to the DDA.
