Northern Lights YMCA is offering a Safe Sitter class
ESCANABA — The Northern Lights YMCA is offering a Safe Sitter class on March 22 from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the YMCA Delta Center in Escanaba. This course is designed for students in grades 6-8 who are preparing to be safe when they’re home alone, watching younger siblings, or babysitting.
Led by an experienced instructor, the class features fun, interactive games and role-playing exercises that will teach students crucial safety and childcare skills. Participants will practice life-saving rescue techniques like choking rescue using manikins, and will also receive a useful handbook to refer to while on the job.
Course Highlights Include:
Safety Skills: How to prevent unsafe situations and respond to emergencies such as power failures or severe weather.
Child Care Skills: Techniques for managing behavior, understanding child development, and practicing diapering.
First Aid & Rescue Skills: CPR and choking rescue are key components, with students learning how to assess and respond to injuries and illnesses.
Life & Business Skills: Role-playing activities to practice interviewing, job screening, and setting rates for babysitting services.
Classes are held at the Multipurpose Room, Northern Lights YMCA Delta Center, 2000 North 30th Street, Escanaba.
Cost is $85 for members and $125 for the general public (includes pizza lunch)
Minimum age to attend is 11 years old
Space is limited to the first eight participants, so early registration is encouraged.
