YMCA has Life Skills program

ESCANABA — The Northern Lights YMCA is excited to announce the launch of its new Life Skills program, aimed at equipping local youth with essential real-world knowledge through hands-on experiences. The program kicks off in March 2025 with its first session, “Money Masters: Smart Spending & Saving,” a financial literacy workshop in partnership with First Bank.

The inaugural session will take place on Tuesday, March 18, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the YMCA Multipurpose Room. Designed for teens ages 13-16, this engaging workshop will teach fundamental money management skills, including budgeting, saving, and making smart financial choices.

“We believe that life skills education is just as important as traditional academics,” said Raquel Schon, Youth, Family & Sports Director of Northern Lights YMCA. “By providing hands-on learning opportunities, we aim to empower young people to build a strong foundation for their future.”

Thanks to our partnership with First Bank, participants will receive expert guidance on how to manage their finances effectively. To make the event even more enjoyable, attendees will also be provided with a pizza dinner and snacks.
