Bay club heading to national conference

ESCANABA — The Bay College/LSSU Regional Center Business Professionals of America (BPA) student club had an outstanding showing at the BPA Collegiate State Leaders (SLC), held at Davenport University in Grand Rapids on Saturday, February 8. All eight Bay College BPA students who competed placed in the top three of their respective events, qualifying them to advance to the National Leadership Conference in Orlando, Fla., on May 7-11.
Leading the team was Griffin Johnson, BPA Club President, who earned three first-place finishes in Contemporary Issues, Ethics & Professionalism, and Human Resource Management. Johnson, a National Champion in 2024, expressed his excitement for the team’s performance.
“The 2025 SLC was a phenomenal experience for both me and the rest of our team,” said Johnson. “Traveling with our largest team since COVID-19 in 2022 and witnessing everyone being called up onto the stage to receive an award for their events was truly my favorite part. I know just how hard they all worked for the opportunity to compete at the National Leadership Conference, and I couldn’t be prouder of them for their efforts. Seeing everyone get that chance filled me with immense pride and joy.”
Other top finishes included:
– Madelyn Wilson, BPA Club Vice President, and Sarah Meyers, BPA Club Treasurer – First place in Small Business Management Team Event. Meyers also took third place in Financial Math & Analysis Concepts.
– Isaac Carlson – First place in Health Administration Concepts and second place in Administrative Support Concepts, Contemporary Issues, Ethics & Professionalism, and Prepared Speech
– Gabriel Belanger – First place in Linus Operating System Fundamentals and second place in Computer Security.
– Jake Poquette – First place in Prepared Speech
– Hunter Robinson, BPA Club Secretary – Third place in Interview Skills.
Bay College BPA students are now preparing for the National Leadership Conference in May, where they will compete against top students from across the country.
