ESCANABA — Here we go again! For the 13th time, the Delta County Chamber of Commerce is proud to be the presenting sponsor of the Island Resort Championship at Sweetgrass. With that designation comes the awesome responsibility of recruiting and placing volunteers for the 300 positions required to host a successful tournament.
We are currently seeking volunteers for the tournament that runs from June 20 through June 22 when the Island Resort and Casino will welcome tour organizers and more than 140 international golfers to Sweetgrass, their award-winning course.
Volunteers will have behind the scenes access to the LPGA qualifying tournament as well as a free round of golf at Sweetgrass or SageRun, complimentary meals during their shift and a tournament shirt or hat. Volunteers will serve as scorekeepers, cart drivers, spotters, and marshals for the 2025 Island Resort Championship at Sweetgrass.
We’re extremely fortunate to have such a dedicated group of volunteers every year. In fact, after sending out the initial call to our past supporters, over 100 veteran volunteers immediately committed to another year. In the words of Tony Mancilla, Island Resort & Casino general manager and event co-chair, “It’s the efforts of our volunteers that help make the tournament experience at Sweetgrass a memorable one for spectators, players, and their families.” We could not of many efforts of the Chamber of Commerce to support community events and local businesses. We also encourage our members to participate in the very popular “Keys to Success” program, which offers discounts and specials to visiting players and spectators. Guests receive a key to unlock savings when shopping at participating member businesses. To participate in the event-specific program, please call the Chamber at 906-786-2192.
