Historical talk set for Wednesday at Bay

ESCANABA — On Wednesday, April 16, Dr. Charles Lindquist will present the final program in the Delta County Historical Society’s 2025 Winter Outreach Series. The presentation, entitled “Three of Lake Shore Drive’s Lumbermen: William Bonifas, J.K. Stack, and Solomon Greenhoot,” will focus on “Big Bill” Bonifas, his lumber business and his influence on our area, and will touch on two other important lumbermen.

Dr. Lindquist is president of the historical society and the author of several books on Delta County and Escanaba history, including “Boats on the Bays de Noc, Delta County, Michigan: 1860s to the 1960s,” “Pioneer Escanaba, Michigan 1864-1883,” and “The History of Escanaba: 1884-1914, the Golden Years of Growth.”

The program begins at 7 p.m. in the Heirman Center of Bay College. It is open to the public and without charge.

Wild Ones to hold ­presentation Thursday

ESCANABA — Wild Ones Central U.P. chapter presents a talk on “Permaculture Food Forests” on Thursday, April 17 at 7 p.m., Bay College Heirman University Center room 903. This presentation, by chapter member Steve Dosh, highlights the interconnected goals of Wild Ones, permaculture, and food forests, all unified by their commitment to ecological harmony and sustainability. Wild Ones advocates for the use of native plants and the preservation of natural landscapes, aiming to restore biodiversity and provide vital support for wildlife. Similarly, permaculture emphasizes sustainable land management and eco-inspired design principles, focusing on improving biodiversity, enhancing soil health, and efficiently utilizing resources.

The event is free, and all are welcome.

Spring Story Hour at Gladstone Library

GLADSTONE — The Gladstone Public Library will be holding a Spring Story Hour on Saturday, April 26, from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Children ages 2 to 10 years old are invited to attend with their families. Activities will include stories, a spring-themed craft and a snack.

Egg hunt Saturday

GLADSTONE — An Easter egg hunt will be held at First Lutheran Church, 1212 Minneapolis Ave., in Gladstone on Saturday, April 19. The event will begin at 1 p.m.

All children are welcome. Participants should bring their own baskets. If there is inclement weather, the hunt will be moved indoors.
