Historical talk on local lumbermen Wednesday

ESCANABA — On Wednesday, April 16, Dr. Charles Lindquist will present the final program in the Delta County Historical Society’s 2025 Winter Outreach Series. The presentation, entitled “Three of Lake Shore Drive’s Lumbermen: William Bonifas, J.K. Stack, and Solomon Greenhoot,” will focus on “Big Bill” Bonifas, his lumber business and his influence on our area, and will touch on two other important lumbermen.

Dr. Lindquist is president of the historical society and the author of several books on Delta County and Escanaba history, including “Boats on the Bays de Noc, Delta County, Michigan: 1860s to the 1960s,” “Pioneer Escanaba, Michigan 1864-1883,” and “The History of Escanaba: 1884-1914, the Golden Years of Growth.”

The program begins at 7 p.m. in the Joseph Heirman University Center building at Bay College. It is open to the public and without charge.
