Remember When?

Courtesy photo On Feb. 7, 1993, the children in the Escanaba First United Methodist Church Sunday school decorated grocery bags to collect food for those in need. The bags were taken home by the children and each family that attended church that day was given a bag. The instructions were to return the bags with an item or items to give to the Salvation Army pantry. The congregation as a whole was challenged to raise more than the 200 pounds of food collected in 1992. On Feb. 14, 1993, the church smashed the previous year’s record by collecting 550 pounds of food and household items. In the photo at left, which ran in the church’s March 1993 newsletter, the Sunday School children stand with the bags of items.
