Unitarian Universalist fellowship recognized
ESCANABA — The Bay de Noc Unitarian Universalist (UU) Fellowship, of Escanaba, has again been recognized as a “Good Trouble Congregation” for its efforts to encourage citizens to exercise their right to vote in the 2024 elections.
The Bay de Noc UU Fellowship was one of 53 UU congregations in the nation to receive this honor. Other Michigan UU congregations that also received the designation were the congregations of Farmington Hills, Grand Rapids, Mt. Pleasant and Traverse City.
The name of the award comes from a statement by the late congressman, John Lewis, who challenged all of America to work collectively to get in the way of injustice and get into “good trouble” to build a truly multiracial democracy.
To qualify for the designation, UU congregations had to meet the following goals: engage people in voter education, voter registration, and get-out-the-vote drives; as well as work at the polls.
The Bay de Noc UU congregation’s efforts were non-partisan and not related to any specific candidate.
