St. Anthony of Padua raffle winner named
ESCANABA — The Dec. 9 winner of the St. Anthony of Padua calendar raffle is Gayle Stoykovich of Escanaba. Stoykovich won the weekly prize of $100.
Breakfast at Eagles Club Dec. 15
ESCANABA — The Escanaba Eagles Club, located at 608 Ludington Street, will serve breakfast from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 15. There will be no fifth breakfast in December so the workers can enjoy Christmas with their families.
Christmas cantatas planned for Dec. 22
ROCK — This year’s Rock-Perkins Area Cantata Choir will annual Christmas concert will feature a performance of “He Shall Reign Forevermore,” by Jay Rouse. Performances will Dec. 22, at 2 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church in Rock; 4 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Perkins; and 6 p.m. at Calvary Lutheran Church in Rapid River.
Refreshments and fellowship will follow each performance, and a free-will offering will be accepted to help with the cost of the music.
Holiday event for the bereaved Thursday
ESCANABA — Delta County Victims Service Unit is presenting a special holiday event on Thursday, Dec. 12 at 6 p.m. in the Joseph Heirman University Center building, room 952, at Bay College.
The event is for those who are grieving a death or loss. A candle will be provided to light in honor of those attending’s special person during a time of remembrance, and guests will be able to hear tips for surviving the holidays.
The special guest presenter for the event is Gwen Kapcia, a licensed social worker, who holds a certification in thanatology, the study of death, dying and bereavement. She has spent her career working with those experiencing grief and loss. Her work has included hospice care, funeral home aftercare support, and she has served as the director at a center for bereaved families.
Kapcia currently operates Your Grief Guide, which supports bereaved individuals and provides training for those who are supporting them through online classes and educational presentations. More information about Your Grief Guide can be found on its website, grief-guide.com.
In addition to directing six camps for bereaved children, Kapcia has co-authored a faith-based curriculum for the bereaved and is the co-author of “Not Another Lasagna: How to Truly Help a Grieving Friend.”
