ESCANABA — Holy Name Catholic School held a Veterans Day celebration on Monday, Nov. 11 in the elementary school’s multi-purpose room. Many area veterans and their family members and friends were in attendance. All veterans and current members of the military were honored for their service.

Holy Name middle school and high school students sang patriotic songs, with accompaniment by Senator Ed McBroom and HNCS Principal Nathan Vande Hey. Songs performed included “The Star-Spangled Banner,” “God Bless America,” the Armed Forces Medley (to salute each branch of the U.S. Armed Forces), and “God Bless the USA.”

A slide show presentation was shown that featured photos of veteran family members of Holy Name students and staff. The presentation was compiled by Holy Name Science teacher and U.S. Navy Veteran Mrs. JoEllen Hadel to thank our service men and women for their service. In addition, students in third, fourth and fifth grades recited poetry. Students presented handmade cards thanking our veterans for their service.
