Harris assumes command of navy aircraft wing

Captain David ‘Rooster’ Harris

ESCANABA — Captain David “Rooster” Harris, U.S. Navy, an Escanaba native and 1994 graduate of Escanaba Area High School, assumed command of Electronic Attack Wing, US Pacific Fleet on Thursday, Aug. 11, during a change of command ceremony on board Naval Air Station Whidbey Island, Wash.

Electronic Attack Wing Pacific is tasked to man, train and equip sixteen EA-18G “Growler” squadrons. The EA-18G is the Electronic Attack variant of the F/A-18 Hornet made famous by the U.S. Navy “Blue Angels” Flight Demonstration Squadron.

EA-18G Growlers deploy around the world supporting U.S and coalition forces in a variety of operations and exercises. Harris previously served as the Commanding officer of Electronic Attack Squadron 132 and Electronic Attack Squadron 129.

Harris is the son of Tom and Sue Harris of Bark River.
