We just went through the machinations to make it manditory to start school AFTER LABOR DAY.
Must be that someone needs baby-sitting services before Labor Day !

Families have so little time to spend together with all their demands - why start school, interrupt it, and make the Labor Day holiday a blip on the school calendar? As well as not finishing out the summer--yes, WHY?

School should actually start back up just after Memorial Day. Labor Day is too late in the summer.

How about we move beyond the idea of a long summer break, which was based on the need for kids to be home working on the farm in an agricultural economy. Year-round school, with several shorter breaks during the year, makes a lot more sense academically. Most kids spend the first month or so of the school year re-learning what they forgot over the summer.

How about we move beyond the idea...
of heating school buildings during the six month‘s when temperatures are the lowest?
This would put an end to
plowing parking lots,
shoveling path’s to doors,
absenteeism due to sickness,
kids in cold buses,
kids in buses on slippery roads, and
poor gas mileage due to cold weather,
and, of course,
we could eliminate the expense of extra-curricular ‘actitivites’,
for which this would translate into having more time to study during the summer,
when schools could operate longer hours, due to days having more sunlight.
We could eliminate all these ancillary costs, improve education, and the physical education for students would be shoveling snow,
and earning money for these good deeds.
Of course, someone,
might find ‘fault’ with such forward thinking and proactive change.
