August 28, 2014
Associated Press

CLINTON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) — Police say an armored car guard opened fire on two men trying to rob him outside a bank, killing one of them.

The robbery attempt happened Thursday afternoon in the parking lot of a Bank of America branch in Macomb County's Clinton Township.

Police Chief Fred Posavetz tells WWJ-AM that a guard was leaving the bank with money when the robbers confronted him. Posavetz says the guard handed over the money, then exchanged fire with the robbers.

Police say one robber was killed and the other fled in a minivan, which was found abandoned a few blocks away.
