GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (AP) — A sexual assault case against a former Kent County assistant prosecutor is moving forward in circuit court.

The Grand Rapids Press reports ( ) 61-year-old Mark R. Vandermolen waived his probable cause hearing Tuesday. He's charged with felony assault with intent to commit sexual penetration and fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct.

An Ottawa County assistant prosecutor has taken over the case because Vandermolen worked in the Kent County Prosecutor's Office for more than a decade. He retired in 2011.

The prosecutor and Vandermolen's attorney say a visiting judge will likely hear the case at the circuit court level in Kent County. They're working on an agreement to keep the case from appearing before a jury.

A 41-year-old woman tells police Vandermolen tried to force her to have sex in July.

He's free on $10,000 bond.
