GLADSTONE - Vera L. Vietzke, 77, of 6 Park Ave., Gladstone, passed away Wednesday evening, July 30, 2014, at the Christian Park Health Care Facility in Escanaba due to complications of congestive heart failure and C.O.P.D. Vera was born Aug. 6, 1936, in Escanaba, the daughter of Norrie and Anna Linnea (Johnson) Holmlund. She was raised in Ensign and graduated from Rapid River High School, class of 1954. Vera was united in marriage to Henry E. Vietzke Sr. on Feb. 11, 1956, at the Calvary Lutheran Church in Rapid River. Together the couple made their home in Rapid River where they raised their seven children. Vera was the proud owner of the Dew Drop Inn Cafe in Gladstone for 28 years. Prior to buying the Dew Drop, Vera worked for nearly 10 years making many amazing wedding cakes. She was a 4-H and Brownie leader for several years and loved to cook, bake, sew, and make ceramics. Vera was an avid Detroit Tigers fan and rarely missed watching a game. Vera always made Christmas a special time at her home where she loved "The Big Meal." She will be deeply missed.
