GLADSTONE - Jack Esterline, 65, of Gladstone, loving husband and father, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on July 12, 2014.
Jack was born on April 26, 1949, in Flint, Mich., the son of Jeff and Glenda (McDaniels) Esterline.
He is a 1967 graduate of Clio High School.
Jack married Pamela K. Sperling on Dec. 2, 1967, in Montrose, Mich.
From a young age, Jack had an inventive and entrepreneurial spirit. He owned Jack Esterline Construction for 35 years and fixed many basements and foundations in the U.P. and northern Wisconsin. He retired in 2006.
God and family were most important to him. He was an avid fisherman and loved the U.P., especially the many friends he met through his business.
He was known as "Pappy" and for his humorous stories and his "Pappy'isms" that he told the grandchildren. He will always be their "champion." Two most said "Pappy'isms" were: "There is no authority without responsibility and no responsibility without authority" and "you get what you allow."
Jack is survived by his wife, Pamela; son, Eric (Marilou) Esterline; daughter, Jill Esterline (John Hahn); five grandchildren, Tonya Esterline, Lucas (Kaitlin) Davenport, Danielle (Tyler) Davenport, Hannah (Blandy) Davenport, and Shaniah Eva Esterline; three great-grandchildren, Savanna and Shyne Esterline and Liam Davenport; mother, Glenda Esterline; brothers, Gene (Sherry) Esterline, Randy (Connie) Esterline, and Glen (Lori) Esterline; sister, Amanda Crews; numerous nieces and nephews; and special family friends, Stephane Hahn, Adam Christianson and family, and the Mager family from Champion.
He was preceded in death by his father, Jeff, and brothers, Roger and Russell.
As per Jack's request, there will be no formal service. A celebration of Jack's life will be held at his daughter Jill's house in Wilson at a later date.
Jack said, "Remember the good times."
The Crawford Funeral Homes are assisting the Esterline family.
