Gracing Ludington Park for many years was a large flag created using red, white and blue stones. Pictured sitting on the grass by the flag are Joyce Kasemodel and her cousin, Eloise, as their parents enjoyed a family picnic at the park.
Although Escanaba has a community garden located on South Lincoln Road for many years, back in the early 1940s, the gardens were grown as a sign of patriotism. Called “Victory Gardens” when the U.S. entered World War II, everyone was encouraged to start a garden and grow food for the Victory Effort.
