ESCANABA - Patti N. "Pat" Boes, of Escanaba, entered eternal life in the early morning hours of June 10, 2014, at the University Hospital in Ann Arbor, Mich., surrounded by her family.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Dr. James Joseph Boes; and her three loving sons who she adored, Colin (Alessa) of Lansing, Mich., Sean (Elspeth) of Charlotte, N.C., Roarke (Janet) of Los Angeles, Calif.; and her loyal Newfoundland, Blu Bear. She is also survived by her brothers, Shawn Newman of Olympia, Wash., and Peter Newman of Dayton, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Betty; and sister, Pamela of San Francisco, Calif.
Pat was born and raised in Sandusky, Ohio. She graduated from Ohio University with a bachelor's degree in journalism and went on to work in Washington, D.C., as a buyer for Lord & Taylor before marrying Jim. Together, Jim and Pat lived in Seattle, Wash.; Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio; Athens, Ohio; and Escanaba. Of all of these, she believed Escanaba was her true hometown.
Patti N. ‘Pat’ Boes
While living in Escanaba, she was deeply involved with the area GFWC (General Federation of Women's Clubs) where she held multiple leadership positions (State Legislative Chair, District President, Club President) and received several prestigious awards to include the Women of Achievement Award and Ms. Federation. Pat was an active supporter of the Bonifas Arts Center, and she helped many area children reach their full potential both as a substitute teacher and mentor. She especially enjoyed teaching at Holy Name where her three sons all went to school. She loved traveling with her husband Jim and her three sons. Her "Divas" held a special place in her heart. She relished traveling with the "Divas" and their signature boas as the "Queen Diva" to locations across the country. Pat loved to write, read, travel and entertain, especially at her famous Fourth of July parties, known as "The Fourth Up North!"
Pat would want her friends and family to forget the bad and focus on the good. Love the people who treat you right, pray for the ones who do not. Life is too short to be anything but happy. Pat, a wife, mother, sister, and friend, will be sorely missed, but her vibrant spirit will live on through her good deeds and in those she loved.
Visitation will be held from 12 to 5 p.m. on Monday, June 16, at Crawford Funeral Home in Escanaba. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 6 p.m. at St. Anne's Church officiated by Rev. Fran DeGroot.
A luncheon will follow in the church hall.
