ESCANABA - The 19th annual Delta County Cancer Alliance golf outing will be held July 10.
The 18-hole fund-raiser scramble is at Escanaba Country Club. It is open to everyone.
The golf event is the primary fund-raiser for the Alliance and is sponsored by Radio Results Network and WDBC-WYKX radio.
The event begins with lunch at noon, a shotgun start at 1 p.m. and a steak dinner at 5:30. Refreshments are provided on the course and a silent auction, raffle and door prizes will be held at 7 p.m.
Cost is $75 per person and entry deadline is July 10. Golfers can register at the ECC pro shop (786-4430) or at Post Office Box 296, Escanaba.
All proceeds are used to assist Delta County cancer patients. Nearly $1 million has been provided by the Alliance since its formation in 1995. Cancer patients receive $500 a year from the Alliance to help cover some of their medical bills and other expenses.
There were 40 patients in 1995, now there are more than 3,000 names on file at the Alliance office, 419 Ludington St., Escanaba (786-0854).
Donations from area residents, merchants, businesses and trust funds are used to support cancer patients and their families. To donate prizes for the golf outing, contact DCCA president Cheri Severinsen (786-1365) or Jon Lancour at the Country Club (786-4430).
DCCA is not affiliated with any other cancer organization and all funds contributed go directly to Delta County cancer patients, other than a 5 percent donation to Mayo Clinic for cancer research.
The board of directors are Delta County residents who serve strictly as volunteers. For details on the Alliance or to make a donation for golf prizes, tourney support or for other questions, contact Severinsen (786-1365).
The DCCA has a loan closest for patients to obtain free use of wheelchairs, commodes, and other supplies.
