GLADSTONE - James E. Force, 87, of 312 Dakota Ave., Gladstone, passed away Saturday, May 24, 2014, at Northwoods Assisted Living in Escanaba. He was born Jan. 29, 1927, in Detroit, and was the son of Lee and Anna (Rapp) Force.
Jim graduated from Lincoln High School and sailed on the Great Lakes working as a cook on the boats. He served in the Merchant Marines during World War II. Jim married the former Marion Goodman on Nov. 21, 1946, in Ferndale, Mich., and she preceded him in death on Feb. 21, 2004.
He was employed for 31 years with Michigan Bell and later with A.T.&T. as the motor pool supervisor for entire U.P. until his retirement in 1992. Jim was a member of the Memorial United Methodist Church, the V.F.W. and the American Legion. He enjoyed golfing, camping, woodworking and was a scout leader for many years.

James E. Force is survived by sons, Dennis (Patricia) Force of Richmond, Mich., Gary (Arnita) Force of Oil City, Penn.; three grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; cousins, Jane Bolander-Gray of Menominee, Helen (Bob) Cook of Escanaba.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by grandchild, Lisa Force.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to noon, Sunday, June 8, at the United Methodist Church in Gladstone. Delta County Veterans Services will be conducted at noon Sunday at the church. Funeral services celebrating the life of James E. Force will be held at noon Sunday at the Memorial United Methodist Church with Rev. Elizabeth Hill officiating. A luncheon will be served following the funeral services in the church fellowship hall. Burial will take place in the Lakeview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials can be directed to the Memorial United Methodist Church. Envelopes will be available at the Anderson Funeral Home or at the church the day of the service.
