Local firefighters responded to three fires in Gladstone and Escanaba during the weekend. No injuries were reported in any of the incidents.
A vehicle caught fire inside an attached garage at a Gladstone home early Saturday morning, according to Gladstone Public Safety.
Firefighters were called out to a garage fire at 705 Ketcham St. at 12:43 a.m. Upon arrival, there was very heavy smoke coming from the garage and the eves of the house, reported public safety in a news release.
After knocking the fire down, firefighters determined that a 2000 Ford Pickup had caught fire, quickly spreading fire and smoke to the residence. A ventilation fan was used to clear smoke from the home.
Assisting at the scene were Escanaba Township Fire Department and Escanaba Public Safety.
A vehicle fire at an Escanaba hotel early Saturday morning destroyed a van and did very minor damage to the building.
Escanaba Public Safety was dispatched to a fire at the Lincoln Host Motor Inn at 620 N. Lincoln Road at 5:10 a.m. to find a van engulfed in flames. The fire was extinguished but the van was a total loss. Heat from the flames melted a small area of siding on the hotel.
Friday afternoon, Escanaba Township Fire Department was called out to a structure fire at the home of Steve McKnight on 0.8 Lane.
A carport had caught fire and the flames spread to a living quarters which was heavily damaged, said firefighters. Cause of the fire is unknown. A car that was removed from the carport had paint and window damage.
Assisting at the scene were Gladstone Fire Department and Escanaba Public Safety. Rampart was on stand by. Firefighters were at the scene for about an hour and a half.
