STONINGTON - Rita Mae Maskart, 75, of 9113 513T Road, Stonington, passed away unexpectedly Easter Sunday morning April 20, 2014 at home of an apparent heart attack.
Rita was born June 25, 1938 in Flat Rock, the daughter of Wilfred and Laura (Roberts) Richer. She was raised in Flat Rock and graduated from Holy Name High School, class of 1958. Rita was united in marriage to Michael Maskart on Jan. 7, 1961, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Flat Rock. They made their home in Kipling and later in Gladstone where they raised their three sons.
Rita and Mike owned and operated Maskart's Nursing Home in Gladstone from 1975 to 1994 when they sold the business to Daryl Miron. Upon their retirement they moved to their current location in Stonington.

Rita loved picking blueberries and canning. She loved to play cards with family and friends.
She enjoyed dancing, going to the casino and helping people out. Her home was always open. If you came as a stranger, you always left as a well-fed friend. She will be sadly missed.
In addition to her husband of 53 years, Mike, survivors include her son, Michael of Gladstone, Gregory of Menominee and Richard of Philadelphia; brothers, Dale (Donna) Richer of Flat Rock and Lester (Debbie) Richer of Perronville; sisters, Ada (Fred) Knauf and Phylis (Dean) Schoen of Flat Rock; sister-in-law, Joan Richer of Gladstone; grandchildren, Jamie, Tom, Michelle, Alissa, Reanna, Raina, and Alexa Maskart; great-grandchildren, Gabe and Kyra.
In addition to her parents, her sister, Theresa Ruckman, and brother, Richard Richer, preceded Rita in death.
Rita's family will receive friends on Thursday April 24, from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone.
