Escanaba student Marlie Gillis signs a national letter of intent to attend the University of Jamestown, a NAIA school located in Jamestown, N.D., Thursday afternoon at North Bluff Chiropractic in Gladstone. Gills received a full academic and athletic scholarship from the university and will compete in the school’s freestyle wrestling program. Gills, who held offers from five other schools, said she selected Jamestown due to her familiarity with coach Tony DeAnda, who had previously coached at the USOEC at Northern Michigan University. Gillis, who has a 3.7 GPA, recently placed second at the MHSAA Women’s Wrestling State Championship. She said she plans on studying biology with aspirations to become a physician radiologist.
