Alyson Barra, above right, past-president of the Bark River-Harris Leo Club, presents a donation check to Samantha Bell of the Tri-County Safe Harbor. Below, Barra (center) also presents a check to Susan Gartland of the Delta Animal Shelter. Pictured with the pair is Gary Aderman, a member of the Bark River Lions Club, which sponsors the Leo Club. The Leo Club organization is the junior affiliate to Lions Club International. It is a community service organization for high-schoolers and supports the values of leadership, experience, and opportunity. The Bark River-Harris chapter was chartered three years ago and is sponsored by the Bark River Lions and the Delta Menominee Heart of the North Club. Activities run year-round and include painting pumpkins at local nursing homes, writing Christmas cards to both active military and local veterans, and raising funds for charities, both local and abroad. In addition to Tri-County and the animal shelter, The Leo Club has made donations to organizations such as Bay Cliff Health Camp, Leaderdog, the disaster relief division of the Red Cross, and U.P. Social Services.
