Woman killed in house fire

NEGAUNEE TOWNSHIP - A Negaunee Township woman died in a house fire when she was unable to escape from her burning home Tuesday night, according to Michigan State Police from the Negaunee Post.

Firefighters were dispatched to a structure fire at 47 Hoist Road at around 10:40 p.m. Upon arrival, the home of Daniel and Rosemary Juchemich was fully involved in flames, stated troopers in a news release.

Daniel Juchemich, 69, was able to exit the residence and was transported by ambulance to Marquette General Hospital where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. His wife, Rosemary, 63, was not able to escape and died in the home.

The fire was extinguished at around 2 a.m. and remains under investigation.

Negaunee Township Fire Department was assisted at the scene by the Negaunee City Fire Department, Marquette Township Fire Department, Marquette County Rescue Unit 131, and Marquette General Emergency Medical Services.
