Ruth F. McClelland

MANISTIQUE - Ruth F. McClelland, 67, of 14348 Gooseneck Lake, 00 Drive, Manistique, Mich., passed away Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2014, at Marquette General Hospital, in Marquette, Mich.

Ruth was born Sept. 1, 1946, in Detroit, Mich., the daughter of Norman and Mathilda Dicks. She was a 1964 graduate of Farmington High School.

On Sept. 25, 1971, Ruth married Charles McClelland at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Farmington, Mich.

Following their marriage, Ruth and Chuck spent 25 years in the Ferndale, Mich., area. In 1997, they moved to Manistique and settled on Goose Neck Lake.

Ruth was a member of St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church in Cooks. She enjoyed being an instructor for country and western line dancing and clogging. Ruth further enjoyed volunteering at area nursing homes.

She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Charles McClelland of Manistique; her daughter, Christine Stiles of Houghton, Mich.; her son, Douglas (Brenda) McClelland of Kentucky; her grandchildren, Carrie, Kelsey, Ian, and Aaron, and her great-granddaughter, Kayla. Ruth is further survived by her sisters, Marion Minton and Mary Jewett; and brothers, Jim, Robert and Pat Dicks; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Justin Stiles; and an infant brother.

Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church in Cooks. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. in the church with Father Brian Gerber officiating.

Inurnment will be in Christian Memorial Cultural Center Cemetery in Rochester Hills, Mich.

The family requests, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be directed to the Garden Area Catholic Churches or memorials of your choice, in Ruth's name.

The Messier-Broullire Funeral Home of Manistique is assisting the family with the arrangements.
