Sandra Lee Groleau

GLADSTONE - Sandra Lee Groleau, 69, of 3672 21st Road, Gladstone, passed away unexpectedly Thursday evening Dec. 26, 2013, of an apparent heart attack at the St. Francis Hospital in Escanaba.

Sandra was born May 21, 1944, in Escanaba, the daughter of Leo and Beatrice (Saul) Therrien. She was raised in Flat Rock and Escanaba and she was a 1962 graduate of Holy Name Catholic High School. Following graduation, Sandra worked at the Northern Service Bureau in Escanaba. Sandra was united in marriage to Norman Young on Nov. 30, 1963, and they resided in North Carolina and Gwinn while Norman was stationed in the United States Air Force. They settled in Flat Rock where they raised their children. Norman preceded her in death in 1993. She married Gary Groleau on May 27, 1995 and he preceded her in death on Jan. 2, 2009.

Sandra's working career included Louisiana Pacific and the Michigan Department of Agriculture of the Upper Peninsula. She retired following 32 years of employment with the State of Michigan. Following her retirement, she went back to work with the Delta County Chamber to assist with running the U.P. State Fair. This past year she was crowned the U.P. State Fair Queen.

Sandra was a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church and the U.P. Hereford Breeders. Her hobbies included traveling and spending time with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed the U.P Fair, spending time with her family, and she always looked forward to her "Sister Weekends."

In September of 2012, she met the love of her life, John Falkeis.

In addition to John, survivors include: Children, Brian (Gisella) Young of Smithville, Mo., Caryn (Rob) Mitchell of Escanaba, Janelle Wigand of Escanaba; sisters, Sally (Harold) Young of Cornell

Sue (Norman) Teer of Appleton, Wis., Lisa (John) Irby of Bismarck, N.D., Cindy (Tom) Nygard of Appleton, Wis.; grandchildren, Robbie Young, Gregory Young, Rhiannon Groleau, Laci Mitchell, Heidi Mitchell, Kassidy Wigand, Karly Wigand, Ramses Young and Seti Young; great-granddaughter, Kyrsten Young; stepmother, Violet Therrien of Escanaba; special couples, Dan and Linda Robitaille of Flat Rock and Amber and Ted Hanson of Cornell.

Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.

In addition to her parents and husbands Norman and Gary, Sandra was preceded in death by her stepson, Clark Groleau and grandson, Nikolas Young.

Sandra's family will receive friends on Monday, Dec. 30, 2013, from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Skradski Funeral Home in Gladstone. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Flat Rock with Rev. Fr. John Longbucco officiating. Luncheon will follow in the Fr. Matt Hall.
