GWINN - Eugene P. Harmon, 84, of Gwinn, died Thursday morning, Dec. 19, 2013, at his home, with his family by his side and under the care of Lake Superior Hospice.
He was born Oct. 11, 1929, in Santa Ana, Calif., a son of the late Gale and Vivian Belle (Smith) Harmon.
Following Gene's eight-year enlistment with the U.S. Army, he joined the U.S. Air Force and retired in 1971 as a Tech Sgt. He was a Korean Conflict and Vietnam War veteran.

Gene operated a snow plowing and trucking escort service before starting Harmon's Mobile Home Transport, hauling manufactured houses and mobile homes and then selling the business in 2007. He then managed the logistics and drove vehicles for Frei Chevrolet.
He was a founding member and past-president of the West Branch Sportsman Club, past president of the U.P. Pioneer No. 88 RV Club, life member of the Elks and Little Lake American Legion. He was also a member of Ducks Unlimited, Munising Moose Lodge, U.P. Whitetails Assoc., NRA and Good Sam Club, Air Force Sergeant's Association, The Retired Enlisted Association and Rocky Mt. Elk Foundation.
His interests included hunting, camping, snowmobiling, four-wheeling and bowling.
Gene is survived by his two children, Debbie Cairns of Gwinn, and Steven (Martha) Harmon of Grayling; life partner, Nancy Banfield of Gwinn; grandchildren, Lillian Harmon and Abigail Cairns; and former spouse, Carolyn Harmon of Gwinn.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Carol. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013, at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Gwinn with Rev. Ronald Libey officiating. Visitation will be held in the church for one hour prior to the service.
